Caribou
The place
Caribou in the Grands-Jardins National Park, Saint-Urbain/Clermont area (Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada), at 779 m elevation, on the Grands-Jardins plateau. Part of the continuous Quebec cluster (batches 234-320). A SÉPAQ refuge named after the woodland caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou, the last Charlevoix herd, roughly 30 individuals, critically endangered, the southernmost population south of the St. Lawrence), in a zone of balsam fir and old man's beard lichen. A UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1988, sitting atop a 350 million-year-old astrobleme.
