Capanna Tamaro
The place
Capanna del Tamaro is a mountain hut located at 1867 m elevation in the municipality of Monteceneri, in the Valle del Trodo (Lugano Prealps, Ticino). Built in 1941 from a First World War military installation, it was renovated in 1953 and enlarged in 1988. It sits on the summit connecting the Valle del Trodo and the Valle del Duragno, practically on the border between Sopra- and Sottoceneri, about 1 km from Monte Tamaro. Managed by the Swiss Alpine Club, open from late May to mid-October. A classic stage for those completing the Monte Tamaro - Monte Lema traverse. Wooden construction from 1941, electric lighting and indoor toilets.
