The place
High-altitude cabin at 1534 m in the hamlet of Prato-Sornico, in Val di Prato (a side valley of Val Lavizzara), Ticino Alps. Coordinates 697.840 / 140.200. Converted in 1997 from a former stone barn at Alpe Campo Tencia built in 1927. Owned by the Società Alpinistica Valmaggese (SAV), affiliated with the Federazione Alpinistica Ticinese. Dining room seating 40 around a central fireplace, wood and gas stove, 220V lighting, paid showers and toilets, meeting room, 5 rooms totalling 35 sleeping places. Reconstruction work started in 2025, reopening planned for 2027. Access from Prato Sornico in 2h30 or from Schièd in 1h.
