Capanna Sociale Barbero
The place
Social hut of the CAI Cuneo, at 1669 m, in the Valdieri area (Cuneo, Maritime Alps, Mercantour-Marittime Park). Inaugurated on August 22, 1965, dedicated to the memory of Roberto Barbero, a young climber from Cuneo who died on June 16, 1963 on the Sommet Plent in the Catena delle Guide. Solid metal construction, 12 beds. Usually closed and unstaffed: access reserved for CAI members in good standing (key available on request from the section). Not to be confused with the nearby Rifugio Don Barbera. Approach from the Ponte della Vagliotta (Valdieri) in about 1h55. Panoramic position at the heart of the park, with a view of the cross-border summits.
