The place

Alpine hut ("rifugio") set at 2,003 m in the upper Val Peccia (municipality of Lavizzara, Vallemaggia, Ticino, Switzerland, Lepontine Alps). A remarkable position nestled between the Alpe di Masnee and the Alpe di Sròdan, with an exceptional view over the Peccia plain. Sheltered by the area's iconic peaks: Pizzo della Rossa, Pizzo Castello, Pulpito, Poncione di Braga, and Tanèda. A hut surrounded by streams and bilberry bushes. A stop on the Via Alta Vallemaggia (the high-altitude traverse of Ticino's Vallemaggia). Open year-round, staffed from June to October. Standard access from Piano di Peccia via a red-and-white marked trail: 5.9 km, about 2 h 42 min, +970 m of ascent. An exceptional mineral and lake-dotted setting in the high Lepontine valleys: subalpine grasslands, larches, Swiss pines, and iconic wildlife such as chamois, ibex (reintroduced), marmots, golden eagles, and bearded vultures. One of the most popular self-sufficient hikers' huts in Ticino.
