The place

CAS Sezione Ticino cabin (Capanna Michela Motterascio) on the Alpe di Motterascio, at 2,171 m elevation, on the southern edge of the vast Greina plateau in the Val Blenio (Ticino, Adula group). Building successfully blending old and modern after renovation, with a west tower added in 2005. Staffed from mid-June to mid-October, the hut warden Fabio Merzaghi offers particularly well-regarded cuisine (Ticino specialties and fine cakes). Starting point for the Greina plateau and the ascent of surrounding peaks above 3,000 m (Piz Terri, Piz Coroi, Vial, Gaglianera, Piz Valdraus). Phone +41 (0)91 872 16 22.
