Capanna Eugenio Sella
The place
Unstaffed shelter at 3,029 m on the Nuovo Weissthor of the Monte Rosa massif, managed by the CAI Macugnaga section. Built in 1891 and dedicated to Eugenio Sella, it is nicknamed the "nido d'aquila" (eagle's nest) for its perch atop a rocky spur. Emergency shelter open year-round. Helmets are mandatory due to rockfall hazard. A base for alpine climbs on the Italian side of Monte Rosa and the Roffel glacier.
Getting there
Access from Pecetto di Macugnaga via path B38, about 4 h 15 total, difficulty EE. An alpine traverse from Monte Moro (Traversata dei Camosci) is also possible; a guide is recommended.

Italian side of the Monte Rosa massif, on the rocky spur of the Nuovo Weissthor above the Roffel glacier. Area exposed to rockfall.
