Capanna delle Guardie
The place
A free bivouac managed by the Unione dei Comuni Valdarno e Valdisieve, set on the edge of the Foresta di Sant'Antonio, between the Vallombrosa biogenetic reserve and the Pratomagno, in the Tuscan Apennines. Three three-tier bunk beds provide nine sleeping spots, along with an indoor fireplace, a sink, a table with benches and an outdoor fountain brought back into service in 2024. Very scenic, the bivouac overlooks the Foresta di Sant'Antonio as far as the Poggio Uomo di Sasso and the Val d'Arno beyond. Access from Croce al Cardeto via the educational trail 14 (about 1 km), or from the wind turbine car park via ridge trail 00 then link trail R4.

The setting
Edge of the Foresta di Sant'Antonio, on the fringe of the Tuscan Pratomagno, view over the Val d'Arno.
