The place
The Capanna dei Monti di Lego is a cabin-grotto at 1150 m elevation in the municipality of Mergoscia, in the Val Resa (Lepontine Alps, Ticino). Former 1890 barn renovated in 1970 and turned into a cabin-grotto-hostel, then renovated again in 2008. Dining room with 15 places, wood heating, solar lighting. The grotto includes a 16-place indoor room and a large outdoor area; the dormitory occupies the upper floor. Outside: two toilets and a shower. Overnight stay with dinner and breakfast included (drinks not included). Open Thursday to Tuesday, closed Wednesday (weekly rest day). Very sunny site with a 360° panorama over Lake Maggiore and the Magadino plain.
Getting there
From Mergoscia or Brione s/Minusio via the alpine pasture trails of the Val Resa.
