Capanna Como: A Historic Mountain Refuge The Capanna Como, located at 1790 m elevation in the municipality of Livo (CO), in Val Darengo, is a stone hut belonging to CAI Como. Built in 1892 and fully renovated in 2006, it is the oldest hut owned by CAI Como, run directly by the association. The hut has crockery, a wood stove, a gas cooker, running water, toilets, a laundry room, mattresses, solar lighting and an emergency phone. There is no warden on site; use is self-managed. Capacity: 23 beds (11 during the Covid-19 pandemic). Open: From June to September/October, with online booking and payment for a keyless entry code. Access Departure from Livo, Crotto Dangri locality at 642 m elevation, with a walking time of four and a half hours. The trail is well marked and crosses chestnut and beech forests, grassy alpine pastures, pine forests and bare mountain terrain. Difficulty: E (EE in winter), the trail runs alongside the Livo stream from Lake Darengo to Lake Como. Ascents Pizzo della Gratella - 2,230 m Pizzo San Pio - 2,304 m Traverses To Lake Cama via the Passo dell'Orso To Corte Terza and Bodengo via the Bocchetta di Correggia, a stage on the Alta Via del Lario.
