The place

Staffed hut of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), Winterthur section, set at 2311 m in the Surselva (southwest Vorderrheintal of the Cavistrau Grond, canton of Grisons, Switzerland). A remarkable position on the edge of a small plateau at the foot of the Bündner Tödi ("Grisons Tödi"), facing the Gletscher da Punteglias. Capacity of 35 beds. Staffed from early July to late September. Exceptional views of Piz Ner, Piz Tschietschen, Piz Posta Biala, Piz Urlaun, Bündner Tödi, Piz Frisal, Crap Grond and Cavistrau Grond — iconic summits surrounding the glacier. A classic starting point for popular alpine routes in the area: Piz Russein (Tödi, 3614 m, the highest point of the Glarus Alps), Piz Urlaun, Piz Frisal, Piz Posta Biala, Bündner Tödi. An outstanding mineral and glacial setting in the Grisons Alps. Iconic wildlife: ibex, chamois, golden eagle, bearded vulture. Access from Trun or Schlans in the Surselva. The Romansh place name "camona" traditionally denotes high-altitude Grisons shelters.
