Camasunary
The place
A Mountain Bothies Association (MBA) bothy on the Isle of Skye (Inner Hebrides, Scotland), at the head of Camasunary Bay ("Bay of the white shieling" in Gaelic) at the foot of the Munro Blàbheinn (929 m / 3048 ft) and by the shore of Loch Scavaig. The new bothy was built by 59 Squadron of the Royal Engineers at the request of the landowner Alan Johnson in partnership with the MBA, and fitted out by MBA volunteers. Block and timber-frame structure with a local stone facing, fully insulated but with no fireplace or stove, fitted with bunks for 15 people. Dedicated to the memory of Neil "Bell" Mackenzie, who died in 2015 on Joffre Peak (Canada). A key stop on the Skye Trail between Sligachan and Elgol. Free access, open to all, no booking required.
