Cabane du Caillou de Soques
The place
Open, unstaffed cabin in Béarn, at 1,415 m altitude in the Pyrenees National Park, in the Ossau valley. Located right by the road, backed against a huge boulder. Capacity for 4 (summer and winter alike). Facilities: 2 metal beds, a fireplace, wood, water. A single fairly large, rather damp room, with two windows and two spring mattresses. A classic starting point for reaching the Refuge de Pombie.
The setting
Cabane adossée à un énorme rocher, au bord de la route menant au Col du Pourtalet, à proximité du lac de Fabrèges, en vallée d'Ossau (Béarn, Pyrénées-Atlantiques). Elle se situe en zone cœur du Parc national des Pyrénées. C'est un point de départ classique pour rejoindre à pied le refuge de Pombie (au pied du Pic du Midi d'Ossau) ou le refuge d'Arrémoulit.

Fairly damp with some leaks. The fireplace smokes far too much to be used. Beds available: 6 A single large, damp room. Open to hikers year-round. Both windows are broken. A large broken saw on site. Two spring bed frames. A fireplace.*By car* From Pau take the N134 to Gan. Then take the D934 towards Laruns. Cross Laruns then continue on the same road towards the Col du Portalet. Leave the Lac de Fabrèges on your left. Park 4km after the lake, at the Caillou de Soques (a warning light marks an avalanche corridor). The cabin is right by the road against a huge boulder *By public transport* (July-August only) From Pau station, take bus 806 towards Gourette (Transports64, +33 0 800 64 24 64) Get off at the Laruns stop. Take bus 806bis towards the Col du Pourtalet (Transports64, +33 0 800 64 24 64) Get off at the Socques stop The cabin is right by the road against a huge boulder
