The place

Former alpine-pasture cabin at 2196 m in the Parpaillon massif (Ubaye, Hautes-Alpes). 4 basically fitted-out spots. Dry-stone construction rehabilitated in 2005 by an association from Saint-Paul-en-Ubaye (36 volunteers per the plaque on the door). Stove that draws well, pot, gas bottle, jerrycan, narrow table, two benches, low sleeping platform for 3-4 people. Small window blocked to keep out a voracious stoat, double door of wood and plastic. Coming from the Ubaye it's possible to gather wood (saw and axe available). Access from the parking opposite the refuge de Basse Rua (Val d'Escreins): 9.8 km and about 1200 m of elevation gain; or from the GR5/D25 (Ubaye valley towards Maljasset) in 2.2 km and 596 m of elevation gain.
