The place
Unguarded pastoral cabin at 2225 m in the Belledonne massif (municipality of Saint-Colomban-des-Villards, Arrondissement of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, Savoie). Restricted access requiring prior authorisation. Remarkable position near the Col du Coup de Sabre du Piniollet and the Source du Glandon — one of the sources of the Glandon torrent, which flows into the Arc in Maurienne. Neighbouring the Ancien Chalet de la Combe (2180 m) and several pastoral cabins in the Sept-Laux and upper Glandon valley area. Exceptional mineral setting of the southern Belledonne high valleys: subalpine grasslands, glacial lakes, high-altitude larches, panorama over the Aiguilles d'Arves, the Sept-Laux massif and the Belledonne range. Emblematic wildlife: chamois, marmot, ibex (reintroduced in the nearby Aravis), golden eagle, rock ptarmigan. To be used with respect for active pastoral farming.
