Cabane pastorale du Mont de la Perrière (Marmottes Noires)
The place
Unstaffed pastoral hut set at 2275 m in the Lauzière and Grand Arc massif (Savoie, municipality of Montsapey or surrounding area). A remarkable location at the heart of Savoie's high summer pastures, on the route linking Mont Bellacha (2484 m) and Pointe des Marmottes Noires (2339 m) — two flagship peaks of the massif. The hut is near Chalet de la Perrière (1684 m). An exceptional mineral setting: subalpine grasslands, high-altitude larches, an open panorama over the Mont Blanc, Vanoise and Écrins massifs. Emblematic wildlife of the Lauzière area: chamois (a significant population), marmot (very present — hence the place name "Marmottes Noires"), ibex (reintroduced in the neighbouring Vanoise), golden eagle, rock ptarmigan, black grouse. A stop on the routes linking Pont des Rouelles to Mont Bellacha, one of the finest wild areas of the Savoie Prealps. Usage conditions must be respected (an active pastoral hut during the summer grazing season).
