Cabane pastorale du Jocou
The place
Recent wooden pastoral cabin set at 2000 m on the south ridge of the Jocou, 500 m from the summit (2051 m), in the Vercors-Diois massif (Drôme). The Jocou is an iconic summit on the Vercors-Diois boundary, accessible via the Col de Grimone. Equipment: working wood stove. Shelter possible in case of storm or bad weather against a wall or underneath (the cabin is raised). Remarkable position on the high limestone ridges of the Diois, exceptional 360° panorama over the surrounding summits: Vercors, Glandasse, Trois Becs, Dévoluy and even Mont Blanc on a clear day. Mineral and forested setting of the limestone Prealps: subalpine meadows, high-altitude beech-fir forests, landscapes typical of the Vercors Regional Nature Park. Emblematic wildlife: chamois (reintroduced), golden eagle, griffon vulture, peregrine falcon, alpine chough. Stop on the ascent path of the Jocou and the loops around the Col de Grimone.
