Cabane neuve de la Ratelle
The place
Additional information about the lower one (the accessible one): Water nearby: Unknown. Latrines: No. Stove: No. Fireplace: No (it exists but has surely been blocked up). Forest nearby: Yes (100m below). Access: from Crévoux (backcountry ski route no. 17 from the resort) or La Chalp (650m elevation gain via the vertical kilometre). Remarks: The Ratelle cabin is in two parts: - The higher one (in altitude) is the more recent. It is presumably closed, but this needs checking. It is certain that during the summer grazing season (May–October) it is occupied by a shepherd and is then inaccessible - - The lower one is accessible. Between 5 and 10 people can sleep there. Inside, there is no equipment except a bigbag. It is in decent condition. The windows are boarded up. There seems to be an upper floor that might be accessible to animals. However, there were no traces of them when we were there. Except for the concrete floor, which is quite cold, the heat (body heat or from a gas stove) seems to be fairly well retained.
