The place
Unstaffed hut located at 693 m in the Doubs département (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), listed on IGN map 3623OT Maiche / Gorges du Doubs. Located in the Franco-Swiss border plateau sector of the Haut-Doubs, on the fringe of the spectacular Gorges du Doubs (natural border between France and Switzerland). Basic building, free access, rustic stopover for hikers and mountain bikers travelling through the Gorges du Doubs sector and the Comté plateaus. Exceptional forest setting: beech-fir forests, limestone cliffs of the Doubs river, spectacular gorges (carved into Jurassic limestone), karst caves. Emblematic wildlife: Jura chamois, Eurasian lynx (reintroduced in the 1980s), capercaillie, roe deer, red squirrel, peregrine falcon on the cliffs. Possible stopover on the themed trails of the Gorges du Doubs and the Grande Traversée du Jura (GTJ).
