Cabane forestière des Descendues

The place

Former woodcutters' hut at 1240 m in the Vercors massif (Isère). Well preserved, austere due to its forest setting and the dark colour of the chalet. Ground floor: table, a few chairs, bench and a non-working stove. Plastic sheeting insulating the windows. Front door can be locked from the outside with a handcrafted wooden latch — impossible to close from inside, which can be a problem in strong wind since the door opens outward. ONF staff had the stove removed pending proper heating installation.
