Cabane forestière de Velouse
The place
Sleeping capacity: 4. Spaces on mattresses: 1. What appears to be a former charcoal-burners' hut sits off the marked trails of the area. Decent insulation; the interior includes: - A stove that's out of service, as the flue elbow is missing. - A sleeping platform. - A mezzanine reached by a short ladder. - An extra room with wooden planks that also serves as a sleeping area. A mattress is present. As a bonus: - Table and benches outside. - A campfire spot and barbecue set up outside; there's a grill behind the stove for grilling. - A small woodshed near the entrance door. - A shovel and a saw. In winter, be careful not to get caught out by heavy snowfall, as the door opens outward. It is located above the GR9, between the Montjalat meadow and the Croze ravine. Getting there
Elle domine le GR9, entre la prairie de Montjalat et le ravin de Croze, dans le massif de la Chartreuse (commune du Sappey-en-Chartreuse). On peut s'y rendre en transport en commun grâce à la ligne de bus TAG n°62.
The setting
Cette cabane forestière isolée se situe en forêt de Chartreuse, à moins de 500 m à vol d'oiseau de Grenoble ; aucun point d'eau n'est signalé dans un rayon de 100 m. En hiver, la porte s'ouvrant vers l'extérieur peut se retrouver bloquée par la neige — vigilance recommandée.
A bit of history
Cette cabane aurait servi autrefois à des charbonniers, artisans qui fabriquaient du charbon de bois ; elle se trouve aujourd'hui écartée des itinéraires balisés.
