Cabane forestière de Fontfroide

The place

Modest forest hut at 1540 m deep in the Séchilienne forest (Vercors, Isère), between the Fontfroide forest road and that of the Fontaine de l'Ours. Accessible via a grassy path linking the two roads. Built in a discreet clearing, rather dark interior since the only window is small. Clever hatch in the middle of the front door allowing use of the outside lock from inside. Table, two chairs, bench, fireplace, ladder to the upper floor with a wooden floor used for sleeping. Average insulation, especially upstairs where the boards making up the walls are not very tightly fitted. Spring about 100 m above the hut but seems to run dry for much of the year.
