Cabane du ruisseau de Font-froide
The place
Sleeping places: 2 Tiny cabin, still fairly sound. Last renovated in 1992. A raised wooden sleeping platform takes up half the space. The rest is occupied by the door and a chimney in poor condition. A few grills and cooking utensils. On my visit in November 2017, the sleeping platform was covered in dry, old, dusty ferns. A thorough sweep would be needed to make it habitable again. Shovel, pickaxe, hoe, but no broom. A small wood store fills the remaining 30cm between the chimney and the sleeping platform. The stream alongside was running sparingly. Needs attention, as livestock is present in the area. Park the car at the junction between the Route des Corniches and the road coming from Verdun. A pastoral track leads off 100m to the south, climbing slowly up the sunny slope. After 5 bends, where the path recrosses the Font-froide stream, the cabin comes into view in a field below. Cross about 50m of field by eye (many ferns)
