Cabane du Petit Parpaillon
The place
Summer-grazing cabin set at 2148 m in the Parpaillon valley (Ubaye, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), used mainly as a storage shed by a local shepherd (salt, in particular), but which can still provide shelter if needed. Notable position on the edge of the Col du Parpaillon (2640 m), a famous historic pass linking the Ubaye to the Embrunais via an iconic road tunnel (built in 1894). A mineral and pastoral setting typical of the high Ubaye valleys: larches, subalpine meadows, panorama over the iconic peaks of Grand Bérard (3046 m) and Chalanche (2984 m). Neighboring the Cabane du Grand Parpaillon (2060 m) and the Bergerie du Parpaillon (2040 m). Iconic wildlife of the Parpaillon: chamois, marmot, golden eagle, griffon vulture. Classic access by ski touring from Les Orres (Les Ribes) via the Col de Girabeau, or on foot from the Col du Parpaillon in summer. Pastoral use to be strictly respected.
