The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 1362 m in the Ossau valley (Béarn, Pyrénées-Atlantiques), in green terrain below the Col d'Aubisque, on the Soum de Grum pasture. Building managed by the town hall of Bost (64440) — an emblematic municipality of Béarn. Notable position on the route of the GRP Tour de la vallée d'Ossau — a loop long-distance hiking route around the Ossau peaks (notably the Pic du Midi d'Ossau, 2884 m, and the Pic des Moines, 2349 m). Exceptional pastoral and mineral setting: green summer pastures, beech-fir forests, landscapes typical of pastoral Béarn where transhumant shepherds have shaped the terrain for centuries. Emblematic wildlife: chamois, marmot (reintroduced in 1948), griffon vulture, bearded vulture, Egyptian vulture, red kite. A popular stop for hikers doing the GRP Tour de la vallée d'Ossau loop or transitioning between the Col d'Aubisque and the Pic du Midi d'Ossau.
