Cabane du Menhir

Neuchâtel · Suisse0 mUnguardedVerified listing

The place

Unstaffed hut at 1160 m in the Doubs department (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), in the heart of the Jura massif — in the Haut-Doubs plateau area. Set on the margins of the forest blocks characteristic of the Haut-Doubs and the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park. The name "Menhir" suggests a megalith nearby — prehistoric heritage typical of certain Jura plateaus, where rare standing stones of Neolithic origin still survive. Basic, freely accessible building, a rustic stopover for hikers and cross-country skiers crossing the forests of Franche-Comté. Typical Haut-Doubs forest setting: high-altitude fir forests, hedgerow meadows, karst sinkholes, springs and seasonal streams typical of the Jura karst. Emblematic wildlife: roe deer, wild boar, Jura chamois, Eurasian lynx, capercaillie in protected areas. Possible stage on the GTJ or local trails in Franche-Comté. Exact conditions (equipment, access, condition) to be confirmed locally.
