Cabane du Lustou

The place

Open, with two rooms: a kitchen, a bedroom. The kitchen is surprisingly fitted with a sink, but there's no water in the hut or nearby; a gas stove, cutlery and a fair number of tins, all long past their use-by date! The bedroom has mattresses and blankets, though the grubby state of the room and the very visible presence of rat poison don't exactly invite you to spend the night. Still, a handy shelter if the weather turns bad. Spring behind the hut (to the east), tapped. Main access via the Rioumajou valley, marked "Lustou" on a sign, then cairns along the track show the way. The hut is fairly well hidden on the way up — GPS/compass can be useful for the final approach, especially in snow when the track isn't visible. Track and cairns also mark the way down from the Lustou. Also called Cabane du Thou (on IGN maps). A pastoral hut used during summer grazing by shepherds, apparently open the rest of the time.
