Cabane du Crouzet
The place
Wooden hut opened in May 2016, located at 1095 m in the Cévennes massif (Lozère), in the Mont Lozère area or the Cévennes plateaus. A basic, freely accessible building, with no sleeping arrangements, no fireplace or stove, no water nearby. Interior fittings: wooden table and 2 benches, broom, guestbook. Good overall condition of the building. Located at the heart of the Cévennes National Park (established in 1970, UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1985 — the first inhabited national park in France). An exceptional setting in the southern Cévennes: chestnut groves (remnants of medieval "bouygues" terraces), old beech forests, orchid meadows on limestone, landscapes listed by UNESCO as "Causses and Cévennes, Mediterranean agro-pastoral cultural landscape" since 2011. Emblematic wildlife: golden eagle, griffon vulture (reintroduced to the Cévennes in 1981), capercaillie, grey wolf (spontaneous return), genet. A daytime stop for hikers on the trails of the Cévennes National Park (GR 70 Stevenson, GR 7).
