The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 2290 m in the Parpaillon massif, in the Montagne du Crachet area (municipality of Crévoux, Hautes-Alpes) — GPS coordinates 44.52010 N, 6.69196 E. Remarkable position in the upper Parpaillon valleys, an essential waypoint for routes linking the Lac and Col du Crachet to the area's iconic summits (Montagne du Crachet 2473 m, Pointe de l'Eyssina 2837 m, Col de Vars). Basic, free-access building — a high-altitude stop for hikers and ski tourers in the Vallon de Parpaillon. The trail passes below the cabin and skirts the Montagne du Crachet to the south, then climbs towards the Lac du Crachet. Exceptional mineral setting of the high Camonican valleys of the Parpaillon: subalpine meadows, glacial lakes, panorama over the peaks of the Ubaye and the Franco-Italian border. Iconic wildlife: chamois, marmot, ibex (reintroduced), golden eagle, bearded vulture, alpine ptarmigan.
