The place
Unstaffed hut located at 1635 m in the Pyrenees massif (Hautacam area, Hautes-Pyrénées), accessible on foot from the Hautacam resort by following the ridge trails. A remarkable position on the heights overlooking the Argelès-Gazost valley and the Lavedan. A basic, freely accessible refuge, a stop for hikers on loop routes on the Hautacam balconies and trails toward the Soum d'Aspé or the Hautacam (1638 m). A rocky and forested setting typical of the central Hautes-Pyrénées: beech-fir forests, high-altitude meadows, landscapes typical of the Atlantic Pyrenees. Emblematic wildlife: chamois, marmot (reintroduced in 1948), griffon vulture, Egyptian vulture, red kite. Located on the edge of the Pyrenees National Park and the wider Cauterets-Gavarnie area, a possible stop on GR 10 variants and the themed loop trails of the Lavedan.
