Cabane des Gardes de Traucadou

The place

ONF refuge at 1350 m in the Sabarthès (Ariège), formerly the residence of a forest ranger brigadier. Burned down by the Germans on 24 July 1944, rebuilt about ten years later by the association "Montoulieu Rando et Patrimoine." Exceptionally well equipped for an unguarded shelter, extremely clean. Spring nearby, wood available, emergency provisions (matches, grills, saucepans, food, candles). 2 tables, 2 benches, fireplace, small wood store inside, broom, shovel, snow shovel, 5 grills of various sizes, plates, pots; mattresses upstairs. Capacity 4 places. Access from Foix toward Prat d'Albis: park at the last right-hand bend of the road, an unmarked trail starts from the meadow on the left just before this bend, follow it for 2 km; cabin to the right just before reaching the ridge line.
