Cabane des Estanils
The place
Small open cabin set at 1320 m on a ridge near the pastoral track linking Miglos to Pla du Four (Haute-Ariège). According to recent visitor feedback (late 2021), it is in good condition with new, well-sealed doors and windows. Equipment: a sleeping platform with mattress for 1 or 2 people (a tight fit), water tap right in front of the cabin. Small, clean, capacity of 2 places on the sleeping platform (3 people possible with one on the concrete floor). Located off the main Couserans routes, in the transition zone between Vicdessos and Pla du Four. A typical mineral and pastoral setting of Haute-Ariège: beech and fir forests, high summer pastures, and wildlife emblematic of the area — chamois, marmot (reintroduced in 1948), golden eagle and bearded vulture. Close to other cabins in the area (Cabane de Tabanière at 1575 m, Cabane du Besset du Haut at 1770 m).
