Cabane de Vaudey
The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 920 m in the Doubs department (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), in the heart of the Jura massif. Located on the Haut-Doubs plateaus, in a transition area between the Doubs and Loue valleys, on the fringe of the Haut-Jura regional nature park. Basic freely accessible building, a rustic stopover for hikers and cross-country skiers crossing the Jura forests. Typical Haut-Doubs forest setting: high-altitude fir forests, hedged meadows, karst dolines, springs and seasonal streams characteristic of the Jura karst. Emblematic wildlife: roe deer, wild boar, Jura chamois, Eurasian lynx (reintroduced in the 1980s), capercaillie in preserved areas. Possible stage on the trails of the Haut-Jura regional nature park or the Grande Traversée du Jura (GTJ — a cross-country ski or hiking route of over 380 km crossing Doubs, Jura, Ain and Savoie).
