The place

Sleeping spaces planned: 7. Mattress spaces: 7. Two buildings: the first, the westernmost, always closed — it is actually used by shepherds and ONF staff. The other refuge was renovated from early May 2016, reopened in July 2016 — see comments. It has two levels: - A ground floor with table, benches, latest-generation stove. - An upper floor used for sleeping, with mattresses. Floor entirely covered with a thick foam layer. Excellent insulation. It was particularly well done, with a ventilation duct (which can be closed with a sliding shutter) drilled into the north gable. It's a safe bet that the heat from the stove (as well as from the sleepers) will quickly make the sleeping floor more than comfortable even in winter, to the point you might not need a sleeping bag. Some blankets present. - The refuge is very well insulated and the stove doesn't need much fuel to easily reach over 20°C upstairs! A good spring flows right nearby. The water is icy, even now (August 2016). Dry toilets are accessible via a path behind the refuge. Firewood is not nearby... since the forest stops existing 100 m of elevation lower down. GSM network: good signal (3G reception - Orange). From the hamlet of Longueville (municipality of Saint Baudille et Pipet, not far from Mens), follow the well-marked (yellow) and maintained trail, which crosses many other paths and tracks. It is possible to take the Sentier de l'Hirondelle, which also comes from Longueville but a bit further north; it is somewhat steeper, with sections that may unsettle the more sensitive. Winter: most slopes in this area are highly avalanche-prone, and even the main access path can be dangerous on its upper section.
