The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 1712 m in the Diablerets area (canton of Vaud, Switzerland), close to the border with Valais. It lies 1 h 15 on foot from the Col du Pillon, and 2 h 20 from the village of Les Diablerets. The Canton of Vaud leases this cabin to a private individual who makes it available to users. Straw bedding for 4 people, equipped with a table, chairs, crockery, and kitchen utensils. According to the guestbook, cavers are regular users — the Diablerets area holds numerous caves and karst shafts explored over decades. A remarkable mineral setting in the Vaud Prealps: subalpine grassland, fir forests, limestone cliffs of the Diablerets massif (3210 m), close to the Refuge de Pierredar (2293 m). Iconic wildlife: chamois, ibex (reintroduced in 1958), golden eagle, bearded vulture. A fully self-sufficient stop — bring a sleeping bag and food.
