The place

Unmanned cabin at 1970 m in Haute-Ariège (Pyrenees), owned by the municipality of Aston. Capacity 6 people, summer and winter alike. Well-insulated stone structure, hard to spot at night or in fog with its grassy roof and the large rocks surrounding it. Mattresses, working fireplace (which hardly smokes at all), wood and water. Water pipe about 5 m to the south-west, sometimes buried in winter. Access from the Cabane de Quioulès: south-west to cross a stream via an iron footbridge, then south along the stream, then south-west along the left bank of the Sabine stream; after a ledge at 1773 m, turn right onto a trail that climbs through the woods and follows the stream to the cabin, hidden behind a knoll and rocks.
