Cabane de la Ruche
The place
Unmanned cabin at 2010 m in the Beaufortain massif (Savoie), a rustic and welcoming shelter for hikers seeking tranquillity. Notable position at the heart of the Beaufortain — a traditional dairy-farming valley, famous for its AOP "Beaufort" cheese made in the alpine dairy chalets of the high pastures. Building of pastoral origin in local stone and wood, open-access shelter year-round. Mineral and forested setting of the high Beaufortain valleys: spruces, larches, subalpine grasslands dotted with bilberry bushes, landscapes typical of the agricultural Beaufortain. Emblematic wildlife: chamois, marmot, golden eagle, ptarmigan, capercaillie. Located on the edge of the major Beaufortain hiking routes (Tour du Beaufortain, GR 5), near the Pointe de la Terrasse massif, Roche Pourrie, and the Aiguille Croche.
