Cabane de la Jaça de Los Cabres
The place
Unguarded hut set at 1740 m in the Capcir (Pyrénées-Orientales, Occitanie), between Pyrénées 2000, Les Bouillouses and Font-Romeu. Located on a knoll 150 m above the trail, accessible from the GR 10 — the access route passes via Pyrénées 2000 heading toward Les Bouillouses, with a junction halfway where a track branches off the D618 (parking) then a second track to the right 200 m further at a sharp angle. Basic condition: very dirty and open to the wind according to recent visitor reports — impossible to sleep there comfortably. Equipment: large fireplace. IGN map reference 2249ET Font-Romeu/Capcir. Exceptional Capcir setting: subalpine grasslands, glacial lakes (Bouillouses), hook pine forests, emblematic wildlife including chamois, marmot (reintroduced in 1948), bearded vulture and capercaillie. Emergency stop or picnic break on the GR 10 and HRP loops around Les Bouillouses.
