Cabane de l'Isarce
The place
Solid pastoral hut set at 1285 m in the Pibeste-Aoulhet Nature Reserve (Bigorre, Hautes-Pyrénées), commune of Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre. Fitted with a double bed, table, benches and a fireplace — open year-round to shepherds and hikers. Notable position on the Plateau de l'Isarce, a sector of long-standing ancestral pastoral practice where shepherds and flocks graze from June to October. Forested, pastoral setting typical of the Pyrenean piedmont around Bigorre: beech-fir forests, upland meadows, open panorama over the central Pyrenean chain (Pic du Midi de Bigorre, Pic d'Anie). Emblematic wildlife: Pyrenean chamois (isard), chamois (reintroduced), griffon vulture, Egyptian vulture, marmot. A stage on trails linking the Pibeste-Aoulhet Reserve to the Pic des Toupiettes (1357 m) and the Cabane de l'Aoulhet, or via the Génie Braque — family-friendly routes from Asson in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
