Cabane de l'Aup
The place
Sleeping places: 5. Places on mattresses: 3. Masonry hut, similar to those at Oriol, Pierre Baudinard and Pra de l'Aup (see corresponding entries). Decent insulation, no drafts: the loft is insulated with particleboard panels fixed to the joists, ground floor protected by PVC frames. Sleeping: wooden floor upstairs, there is now a new ladder to climb up. Two slatted 90 cm bed bases, three mattresses, giving a theoretical capacity of 5. Furniture: table, benches, stove, shelves. Tools: broom, shovel. Water: fountain below the refuge (with troughs). The spring is on the path toward the Col de l'Aup (marked on the IGN map). It was flowing despite the cold. Shelter shown on the IGN map. It is open year-round, even though it is used by shepherds during the summer grazing season. * GSM network: decent signal (Orange, 2/5) including inside the hut. From the Hauts Gicons car park (1,362 m), continue east on a driveable track. Shortly after (1,359 m), take the left branch until reaching the bottom of a vale. Then climb an alpine pasture path marked in yellow leading to the hut. Maintained by farmers from St-Disdier.
