Cabane de l'Aspre

The place

Unstaffed refuge at 2471 m in the Mercantour-Argentera area (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). Built in 2010 to replace the old astronomers' refuge, destroyed by a storm in the 1980s. Contains a table, benches and a large wooden sleeping platform (6 spaces) with no mattresses but a few blankets. No heating but the building is dry and well insulated. No water or firewood nearby. In winter, caution: the area is very avalanche-prone.
