Cabane de Girieux

The place

Hut at 1278 m in the Chartreuse massif (Isère). Owned by Mr Raffin Jacques of Quaix-en-Chartreuse, accessible from Saint-Égrève via Proveyzieux, Planfay and Girieux by a drivable but private forest road. Door closed with a piece of string, no window, basic beds (no mattresses) for 6 people, no indoor table for cooking. Memory of the Resistance: the hut served as a shelter for the FTP maquis, 3rd battalion, group 01, from late 1943 to spring 1944, until it had to be abandoned after a German aircraft strafed the camp.
