Cabane de Clarans (assos GR10)

The place

Stocked hut at 1060 m in Haute-Ariège, on the GR10, a short ten-minute detour away (a sign indicates the hut 150 m from the trail). Formerly a simple EDF construction-site building from the 1960s, quickly adopted by GR10 pioneers as an emergency refuge given the lack of alternatives in this very wild area. Large low sleeping platform, numerous mattresses and blankets, wood stove, water and forest nearby, gas stove and fuel. Supplies (tinned goods and other provisions) kept up by the Amis GRdistes association to offer rest and food to hikers between Siguer and the Plateau de Beille. Deferred payment: it all runs on trust.
