Cabane de Cizarols
The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 1500 m in the Haute-Ariège, Naguilhes/Eychouzé sector (commune of Auzat or nearby, Ariège). A notable location right next to the Orri de Cizarols (also at 1500 m, just 43 m away), reflecting Ariège's pastoral heritage — "orris" are the old dry-stone huts once used for making summer-pasture cheese. 3 km to the south lies the Cabane pastorale de l'étang Tort (2333 m), a classic high-altitude stage. A basic building, freely accessible, part of the network of more than 1500 huts and refuges recorded across the Pyrenean chain. A mineral, lake-dotted setting in the high valleys of Ariège: subalpine grasslands, glacial tarns, and iconic wildlife including chamois, marmot (reintroduced in 1948) and the Pyrenean brown bear. A stage on the trails of the Ariège Pyrenees Regional Nature Park and the GR 10 (French trans-Pyrenean trail).
