Cabane de Champérous
The place
Unguarded hut set at 1911 m in the Parpaillon massif (Ubaye, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence / Hautes-Alpes), clean and well maintained according to visitor reports. Located in the high summer-pasture valleys of the Ubaye, on the fringe of the Mercantour National Park and the major Mercantour-Parpaillon traverses. Interior equipment: tables and benches both inside and outside, mattresses laid on the floor upstairs. The Faucon stream flows 150 m from the hut, a reliable year-round water source. Dry firewood and barbecue grills available, minimal but functional equipment. Mineral and forested setting of the high Ubaye valleys: larches, subalpine meadows, panorama over the Brec de Chambeyron and the peaks along the Franco-Italian border. Iconic wildlife: chamois, marmot, golden eagle, black grouse. A favourite stop for hikers on the Parpaillon loop trails.
