Cabane de Calautiès
The place
Unguarded cabin set at 435 m in the Ariège — an unusually low altitude for a "cabane" — located in the Pyrenean foothills of the Ariège (Salat or Arize valley). Located on the plains and transitional hills between the main range and the Lauragais plain. A basic building with open access, used as a hiking or pilgrimage stop. The area is part of the extensive network of over 1500 huts and refuges catalogued across the whole Pyrenean range (Cabanes à 09 association and refuges.info). Mid-altitude forest setting: oak groves, chestnut groves, low beech woods, wildlife typical of roe deer, wild boar, peregrine falcon and genet. A possible stop on Ariège trails linking Saint-Girons to Foix or alongside the Southern Pyrenean route of the Camino de Santiago. Conditions of use to be confirmed locally.
