The place

Open shelter at 2380 m, right next to the ruins of the former staffed refuge that was destroyed (Bigorre / Néouvielle, accessible from Aragnouet). Empty with no facilities but very clean and dry, a tarp on the floor that can be used to rest. Another shelter nearby, built of dry stone: broken door, can serve as an emergency shelter, concrete floor stays damp. Access via the Gela valley from the Aragnouet road (first hairpin bend, car park); via the Badet valley and the Hourquette de Chermentas (600 m elevation gain, about 3 h); or from the Cirque and the Port de Barossa on the Spanish side (Mines de Parzan).
