Cabane d'Ugatzé

The place

Former hunter's hut at 1200 m at the Chalets d'Iraty (Basque Country), also called a traditional Basque cayolar. Access from the Chalets d'Iraty station, following the road 3 km to the right of the restaurant, then a dirt track toward the Col d'Ugatzé. As of a visit on 15 September 2024: all buildings have been fully restored and locked, no longer accessible to hikers. Since 2011 it has served as a cheese-making and salting room for the active shepherd.
