The place

Sleeping places: 5. This is a shepherd's shelter. Open all year but check before coming in summer because if the shepherd is there, I don't think there's room for anyone else... Basic and simple comfort. There is a spring in the combe heading north-northeast towards the Rochers d'Arclosan, staying roughly at the same elevation as the shepherd's shelter; it's in a crevice, NOT EASY TO FIND and probably intermittent... Don't rely on it too much. Sleeping on 3 stacked bunks with straw as a mattress: enough to sleep 5 people at most (head-to-toe). Rather worn-out stove: there's no wood close by, you have to go down 200m in elevation to find some (or bring some up on your way there). A few tools: wood knife, sledgehammer, pickaxe, various rusty tools. A few ancient cooking utensils / pots / cutlery more for decoration than actual use. That said, two pots and two pans in good condition. Small wooden ladder (under the eaves) that may make it easier to access the upper sleeping area. Latest news (June 25, 2010): the alpine pasture is no longer in use and the hut seems to have been unoccupied in summer for several years now. - From Plan Montmin, follow the forest track leading to La Rapille then to the chalets du Mont. At the entrance to the clearing of the chalets du Mont, follow the Arpettaz path climbing through the forest. From the Arpettaz, follow the Crêt des Mouches path which skirts the Pointe de Chauriande. - From Plan Montmin, you can also go via "les Varoppes" on a well-marked, fairly steep path that reaches the Arpettaz from the west side. - Access also possible via La Côte and Saint-Ferréol.
