The place
Unguarded hut at 570 m on the Rhune massif, between Sare and neighbouring villages in the French Basque Country. Also called "Cabane des aigles" (eagles' hut) or "Cabane de la chasse aux vautours" (vulture-hunting hut). In the early 20th century, frequented by vulture hunters — a practice very popular with urban hunters at the time, vultures being considered harmful to lambs and subject to bounties in exchange for presenting the beak and feet. Large structure with a wooden floor that can host 4 people. Fires forbidden both inside and outside.
Getting there
Depuis le parking de la Carrière d'Ascain, suivre la piste qui monte vers la Rhune. La cabane est également décrite comme située sur le plateau d'Ihi-Zelaya, sur les pentes de la Rhune côté Trois-Fontaines.
